What we can and cannot do in Nottingham
We are not a clinic and not the NHS. We do not scan, diagnose, refer or book a slot, and we cannot tell you whether you need a prostate MRI. Urgent symptoms such as new weakness, numbness around the genitals or back passage, loss of bladder or bowel control, a sudden severe headache or chest pain need 999, NHS 111 or your GP today. What we can do: show the Nottingham prices and rules we checked, and pass your request to one partner centre covering Nottingham, if one does. Free for you; the centre may pay us.
Four steps to a private prostate MRI in Nottingham
- Body area: prostate, one side unless you say otherwise.
- Referral rule: self-referral or a letter, depending on the Nottingham centre.
- Centre type: dedicated, hospital group or open, compared on price, rule and report time.
- Ask one centre to contact you with the form. Nothing is booked until you agree a time and price.
Where can I get a private prostate MRI in Nottingham?
Nottingham has private hospitals in and around the city, a dedicated scanning site to the north of the centre, and further options across the East Midlands. Nottingham and Derby are close enough that some people choose between them.
Vista Health's location list on 5 October 2026 included a Nottingham site in the NG5 postcode, north of the city centre, charging its national prices. Spire Healthcare's hospital list includes Spire Nottingham Hospital, and Circle Health Group lists The Park Hospital in Nottingham. Neither published a Nottingham MRI price we could verify on 5 October 2026, so they are not in the table.
Vista Health's own location list, checked 5 October 2026, includes these sites for the Nottingham area: Nottingham. Its prices are national, so the table row applies to each of them; check that the site you pick offers a prostate scan on the day you want.
Can I book a private prostate MRI in Nottingham without a GP?
Sometimes. Vista Health offers adult self-referral and an enquiry route for prostate MRI, at the same price at its sites near Nottingham. Many people start with a PSA blood test through their GP; if it is raised, the NHS has an urgent suspected cancer route. NICE guidance recommends multiparametric MRI as the first-line test for suspected localised prostate cancer before a biopsy. See self-referral.
For a prostate scan in Nottingham, ask the dedicated site north of the centre which protocol it runs. Vista Health's prostate page listed £395 and £650 on 5 October 2026. If you are comparing with a hospital, make sure the quote is for the same prostate protocol.
Nottingham City Hospital is home to the city's NHS cancer centre. Urgent suspected cancer routes run through local urology services; if your GP has found a raised PSA, ask how long that route is taking first.
How long is the NHS wait for an MRI in Nottingham?
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust runs the Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital. NHS England's diagnostics waiting times data for July 2026 (DM01, published 10 September 2026) show that 21.4% of people waiting for an MRI had already waited six weeks or more. That is the England figure; the trust's own figure is in NHS England's monthly diagnostics data by provider.
How do I get to a scanning centre in or near Nottingham?
Nottingham's tram network links the city centre with the Queen's Medical Centre and several suburbs, and buses are frequent. Hospital sites in the city usually have paid parking that can be busy in the morning. If you are coming from outside the city, a site on the north side may be quicker to reach from the M1 than the centre.
If you live in Mansfield, Newark or Loughborough, compare the drive to a Nottingham site with your nearest hospital. The ring road can be slow at peak times. Ask about parking, and check whether the site is near a tram or bus stop if you cannot drive after your scan.
What if my PSA is raised but my GP has not referred me?
Ask your GP why. A raised PSA can have causes other than cancer, such as an enlarged prostate, infection or recent exercise, and a GP may repeat the test. If you meet the criteria in NICE's suspected cancer guidance, your GP should refer you on an urgent route. A private MRI is an option if you want answers sooner, but you will still need a urologist to act on the result.
Should I have a bi-parametric or multi-parametric prostate MRI in Nottingham?
Ask the urologist or GP advising you. A bi-parametric scan uses no contrast and is cheaper. A multi-parametric scan adds images after contrast and takes longer. On 5 October 2026, Vista Health's prostate page listed £395 and £650 respectively, but its general price list showed different figures the same day, so confirm the price with the centre.
What should I do before a prostate MRI in Nottingham?
Follow the centre's own instructions. Some ask you to avoid ejaculation for a few days, to empty your bowel or use a small enema, or to arrive with a comfortably full bladder; some give an injection to reduce bowel movement. If you have had a biopsy recently, tell the centre, because many prefer to wait several weeks afterwards so bleeding does not affect the images. Tell them about any hip replacement, which can affect the images.
