Who is Pete?
Pete owns PASECOM GROUP LTD and edits this website. Every page names him as the editor, and every page is reviewed by him before it is published and again when it is updated.
Pete is not a clinician. He is not a doctor, a radiographer or a radiologist, and nothing on this site is medical advice. His job as editor is narrower: to check that what we say about prices, referral rules and report times matches what centres publish themselves, to date every figure, to name every source, and to state the limits of what a private scan can do before its benefits. Where a medical point matters, such as when a symptom needs urgent care, we keep the wording general and point you to the NHS, NICE guidance or your own clinician.
What does this website do?
It does three things.
- Explains. Each body-area page says what the scan shows, whether you can usually refer yourself, what it costs at centres whose prices we could check, how long the report takes, and what to ask before booking.
- Dates and sources. Every price row shows the centre's own URL and the date Pete checked it. The NHS waiting figure names NHS England's monthly diagnostics release and its month. The full list is on Sources.
- Introduces, if you ask. If you fill in the form, we pass your request to one independent scanning centre that covers your area, so it can contact you. That is free for you. The centre may pay us. See how we make money.
What does this website not do?
We are not a clinic, not the NHS, not a diagnostic service and not a referral service. We do not scan anyone. We do not read scans or reports. We do not decide whether you need a scan. We do not write referrals. We do not take payment from you. We do not book a confirmed appointment or hold a slot for you; only the centre can do that, and only once you have agreed a time and a price with it.
We do not publish star ratings, "best clinic" lists or insurance comparisons, and we do not use stock photographs of scanners that might suggest we run one.
Why England only?
Referral rules, NHS waiting data and the regulators differ across the four UK nations. NHS England publishes the monthly diagnostics figures we quote. Centres in England are registered with the Care Quality Commission. Until we have checked the rules elsewhere, we cover England only.
How can I check a centre myself?
Every centre that provides MRI scans in England must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). You can search for any provider on the CQC website and read its registration and inspection reports. The Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) publishes information about private hospitals. We do not copy ratings onto this site, because they change and we cannot keep a copy accurate; check the source directly.
How do I report a mistake?
Email hello@private-mri.co.uk with the page address and what you think is wrong. If a centre's price has changed, tell us the centre and the page; we will re-check it against the centre's own website and correct or delete the row. Our editorial policy explains how we handle corrections.
Does a centre pay to appear here?
No. The price tables include centres that are not partners of ours and never will be. A centre cannot pay to be listed, to be ranked higher or to have its price shown differently. The only money involved is a possible fee from a partner centre when you ask us to pass your request to it.
Who writes the pages?
Pete is responsible for every page. We use software tools, including AI writing tools, to help draft and check pages and to compare our tables with the centres' own pages. Pete reviews what is published and is accountable for it. We do not use invented quotes, testimonials or case studies.
How should I use this site?
Start with the page for the body area you need scanned. Read the short answer at the top, then the limits section: it says when a private scan is unlikely to help and when you need urgent NHS care instead. Then compare the price table, paying attention to the referral rule and the report time as well as the price. If you are insured, check with your insurer before you book anything, because most policies need a GP referral and a pre-authorisation number.
If you still want a scan, you can contact a centre directly using the links in the table, or use our form to ask one partner centre to contact you. Either route is fine. Using the form does not get you a better price, and contacting a centre directly does not stop you using the form later.
What do the price tables show?
Each row shows one centre type, the from-price the centre published, its referral rule, its stated report time, a link to the page we took it from and the date Pete checked it. A from-price is the lowest advertised price; your quote may be higher if you need contrast, more than one area or a faster slot.
Is Pete a doctor?
No. Pete is the editor and is not a clinician. Nothing on this site is medical advice.
Is this website part of the NHS?
No. It is run by PASECOM GROUP LTD, an independent company. We are not a clinic and not the NHS.
