What we can and cannot do in Manchester

We are not a clinic and not the NHS. We do not scan, diagnose, refer or book a slot, and we cannot tell you whether you need a prostate MRI. Urgent symptoms such as new weakness, numbness around the genitals or back passage, loss of bladder or bowel control, a sudden severe headache or chest pain need 999, NHS 111 or your GP today. What we can do: show the Manchester prices and rules we checked, and pass your request to one partner centre covering Manchester, if one does. Free for you; the centre may pay us.

Four steps to a private prostate MRI in Manchester

  1. Body area: prostate, one side unless you say otherwise.
  2. Referral rule: self-referral or a letter, depending on the Manchester centre.
  3. Centre type: dedicated, hospital group or open, compared on price, rule and report time.
  4. Ask one centre to contact you with the form. Nothing is booked until you agree a time and price.

Where can I get a private prostate MRI in Manchester?

Greater Manchester has dedicated scanning centres across several boroughs, private hospitals in and around the city, and a hospital-group diagnostic suite with published guide prices. Because Greater Manchester is made up of ten boroughs, a "Manchester" scan might be in Salford, Denton, Rochdale or Cheadle, so check the postcode before you book.

Nuffield Health's Manchester Diagnostic Suite, in the M13 postcode south of the city centre, published one of the lowest hospital-group guide prices we found: £400 for one part, £538 for two and £658 for three, on 5 October 2026. It needs a referral. Spire Healthcare's hospital list includes Spire Manchester Hospital, and Circle Health Group lists The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle and The Highfield Hospital in Rochdale. Those did not publish an MRI price we could verify.

Vista Health's own location list, checked 5 October 2026, includes these sites for the Manchester area: Salford, Denton (south-east Manchester), Rochdale. Its prices are national, so the table row applies to each of them; check that the site you pick offers a prostate scan on the day you want.

Nuffield Health Manchester Diagnostic Suite publishes a one-part MRI guide price of £400; £538 two parts; £658 three parts and says you need a referral from a healthcare professional; it gives a firm price once that referral has been reviewed.

Can I book a private prostate MRI in Manchester without a GP?

Sometimes. Vista Health offers adult self-referral and an enquiry route for prostate MRI, at the same price at its sites near Manchester. Many people start with a PSA blood test through their GP; if it is raised, the NHS has an urgent suspected cancer route. NICE guidance recommends multiparametric MRI as the first-line test for suspected localised prostate cancer before a biopsy. See self-referral.

For a prostate scan in Greater Manchester, ask whether the Salford, Denton or Rochdale site does prostate MRI and which protocol it uses. Vista Health's prostate page listed £395 and £650 on 5 October 2026. A general one-part price at a hospital group may not include a multiparametric prostate scan.

The Christie, in Withington, is one of the largest NHS cancer centres in England. Greater Manchester's urology services run urgent suspected cancer routes, so if your GP has found a raised PSA, ask how long that route is taking before deciding to pay.

How long is the NHS wait for an MRI in Manchester?

Manchester's main NHS hospitals include Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital, run by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and Salford Royal, run by the Northern Care Alliance. NHS England's diagnostics waiting times data for July 2026 (DM01, published 10 September 2026) show that 21.4% of people waiting for an MRI had already waited six weeks or more. That is the England figure. Waits vary by trust; NHS England's monthly provider data shows each one.

How do I get to a scanning centre in or near Manchester?

The Metrolink tram network reaches Salford Quays, the city centre and many outer boroughs, which helps if a centre is near a stop. Several dedicated sites are close to the M60 ring road, which makes them easy to reach by car from most of Greater Manchester. City-centre and hospital sites often have paid parking. If you live north of the city, Rochdale may be closer than central Manchester; if you live south or east, Denton or Cheadle may be easier.

What if my PSA is raised but my GP has not referred me?

Ask your GP why. A raised PSA can have causes other than cancer, such as an enlarged prostate, infection or recent exercise, and a GP may repeat the test. If you meet the criteria in NICE's suspected cancer guidance, your GP should refer you on an urgent route. A private MRI is an option if you want answers sooner, but you will still need a urologist to act on the result.

Should I have a bi-parametric or multi-parametric prostate MRI in Manchester?

Ask the urologist or GP advising you. A bi-parametric scan uses no contrast and is cheaper. A multi-parametric scan adds images after contrast and takes longer. On 5 October 2026, Vista Health's prostate page listed £395 and £650 respectively, but its general price list showed different figures the same day, so confirm the price with the centre.

What should I do before a prostate MRI in Manchester?

Follow the centre's own instructions. Some ask you to avoid ejaculation for a few days, to empty your bowel or use a small enema, or to arrive with a comfortably full bladder; some give an injection to reduce bowel movement. If you have had a biopsy recently, tell the centre, because many prefer to wait several weeks afterwards so bleeding does not affect the images. Tell them about any hip replacement, which can affect the images.

What is the cheapest hospital MRI price in Manchester?

On 5 October 2026, Nuffield Health's Manchester Diagnostic Suite listed £400 for one part, with a referral needed. Dedicated centres charging national prices started from £249.

Is a Manchester MRI centre always in Manchester itself?

Not always. Greater Manchester sites may be in Salford, Denton, Rochdale or Cheadle. Check the postcode before you book.

Can I book a private prostate MRI in Manchester without a GP?

Some dedicated centres accept adult self-referral for prostate scans. Many men in Manchester start with a PSA test through their GP.

Can a prostate MRI rule out cancer?

No. It helps decide whether a biopsy is needed and where. Only a biopsy can confirm what an area is.
